Show Just Folks ly Edgar A. Guest LABOR Oh, some there are must fashion and some there are must sell. And some must melt the metal and others mold it well. Some pen the bills of lading; some haul the goods away. But which is more important there's none of us can say. Compute the cost In iron, In rub ber, cloth and wood. However you divide it, when all is understood. Tis work of men and women; 'tis human toil and strife That take the common substance and shape it fit for life. The jewel's cost Is labor. The diamond in the mine Needs men to go and find It and men to cut and shine. Not in itself lies value. The ores that fill the earth Are barren things and useless till man has given them worth. The pioneer must find them; the scientist must dream. And some must back adventure, though great the risk may seem; Then some must tend the boilers and some must drive the dray. But which is more Important not one of us can say. (Copyright, 1937, for The Telegram) |
