Show Granitians First to Cinch Tourney Berth WEST, PRESTON UPSET VICTIMS III STATE PLAY B. Y. High, Payson, Take Unexpected Un-expected Losses; Grants- ville Beats Miners By 'WENDELL ASHTON Granite high of the Salt Lake district dis-trict is the only team in the entire state even close to a place in the annual an-nual high achool tournament following follow-ing another riotous round Friday. The Farmers clinched a post in the classic clas-sic with a victory over South, but all other contenders are a till far from "in." Pangultch and Roosevelt are the only undefeated teams in the state besides Granite, but both must go through round robins before claiming a place In the tourney. Two heretofore hereto-fore undefeated dubs. North Summit and Ogden, were humbled Friday. Morgan nosed out North Summit while Box Elder put the aklds under Ogden. There were other surprises. South Cache ran all over Preston in Cache district to gain a tie with the Indians for second, and Davis Jolted West's tournament hopes in Sslt Lake district dis-trict American Fork did the same thing to B. Y. high in Alpine and Spanish Span-ish Fork did the same to Payson In Nebo. Bicknell forged ahead In North Sevier by lacing Saline, and Ferron started Carbon-Emery district fans with a triumph over Central. South Cache Trounces Preston by 38-14 Count HYRUM, Feb. IS South Cache put Itself within striking distance of the Csche district title here Friday, upsetting up-setting Preston. 31 to 14. The victory gives the locs z f for second. IS Another dud-lock dud-lock between Ogden and Weber high schools, becoming customary in the local district, exists today. Box Elder dropped Ogden Into a tie with the Warriors by defeating the state champs, 11 to 17. A sensational last quarter rally produced pro-duced the Bee victory. Ogden led at the end of the first quarter, 7-2; at the half, 11-10, and at the end of the third quarter, 23-11. Weber had a close call with Bear River, but won, 11 to 21. The winners led the entire route.
