Show SILVER BUYING AID PROMISED (s raltr rms) WASHINGTON, Feb. 11 Efforts to force passage of a silver stabilization bill at the present session of congress were promised the silver producing state today by th house coinage committee. The committee yesterdsy received from a subcommittee the draft of a measure which would embark the treasury on silver monetlzstion and stabilisation program by the purchase pur-chase of silver bullion and the issuance issu-ance of silver certificates. Th bill wis drafted by Chairman Somen, but It was understood not to meet with th full approval of th more active silver sdvocstes. Th full committee, however, I expected to report it out eirly next week snd to sttempt to obtain its passsge. Be- cans of the jammed legislstiv situation, sit-uation, little hop was held for its enactment this session. Th bill permit th secretary of treasury to Issu silver certificate gainst deposits of silver. These certificates cer-tificates would become legsl tender snd legl bnk reserve. It also permits th treasury to buy up to 40.000,000 ounce of silver monthly at price ranging upward from 40 cents an ounce. Th 40.000 OOOounc limitation was put in the bill at the laat minute as a safeguard against dumping. It also carried a provision permitting the I treasury to stop purchases entirely If ! there were evidence of market rigging rig-ging or the dumping of metal by tor-i tor-i eign countries. |
