Organization of the club January 31, 1911, recalls that there is only one charter member left who is active in the local club today. He is Dean F. Brayton, attorney, who is a past president. It also brings to the forefront the names of four other prominent Salt Lakers, Ben F. Redman, who waa the first member to be elected to the club immediately after it waa formed, and Ella! A. Smith, Ernest Lambourns and Milton E. Lipman, all firat-year members. 23th Year Marked In view of the fact ths Salt Lake City club celebrated extensively its silver anniveriary laat year, at which time Ed R. Johnson of Roan-oka, Roan-oka, Va., then international president, presi-dent, participated in the ceremonies, ceremo-nies, no special observance is planned this year. Ths twenty-sixth birthday anniversary, anni-versary, however, will be referred to by George M. Oadsby, preaident, at ths monthly business meeting Tuesday at :1S p. m. at the Hotel Utah. Ths principal apeaker will be Clifford C Presnall, park naturalist natur-alist of ths southern Utah parka. Sines Its founding, ths local club haa had 27 preaidenta. Including Mr. Gadaby. Tha first at ths helm was ths lets Harry Culmer, who served six months. Ths second president served only half a year. New officers will be elected at the annual meetlnf in May. Originally there were lft charter members. Three of the 38 who could be readily accounted for are Mr. Brayton, Joy H. Johnson of Chicago, fomerly of Salt Lake City, now an honorary member, and Wesley Wes-ley E. King of San Fracisco, formerly for-merly of this city, also an honor-ory honor-ory member. Other distinguished Salt Lakers who are on the honorary list include Governor Henry H. Blood, Beber J. Grant, president of the L. D. S. church; James A. Hogle and George H. Mueller. The late Secretary of War George H. Dern waa an honorary hono-rary member. Single honors, however, go to Ernest Lam bourne, who waa recently re-cently awarded high praise for not being absent from a regular Rotary club meeting in eight continuous years. Mr. Lam bourne, while happy to have the honors, la perturbed over the fact he lost a 13-year attend- I ance record because he failed to at- i tend one meeting. |
