Show COAL MINE WEEK TO BE EXTENDED Utah coal miners Friday received union permission to work 42 hours instead of the usual 39 this week, opening the way for working mines Saturday, said an Associated Press dispatch from Washington, D. C. Permission was granted because of a coal shortage caused by cold weather and illness of miners. B. P. Man ley, secretary of the Utah Coal Operators' association, said he had been advised of the action by John L. Lewis, president of the United Mine Workers of America. "All mines will be worked Saturday, Satur-day, which will be a big aid to the coal situation," Mr. Manley said. "It means 30.000 tons can be moved from Carbon and Emery counties that, otherwise, could not be mined." Similar permission waa refused by Lewis last week. , |
