The table of mortality, with classification classifi-cation of causes, shows 69 deaths, of which 32 were males and 27 females, - Heart disease ' claimed the greatest number of victims, 8; diphtheria and croup ranked next, with B. During the same period there were 100 births, 64 males and 48 females, none of them being be-ing colored. . The marriage licenses issued is-sued in January were 98. , The number of deaths occurring in January of preceding years follows: 1902, 61: 1901. .70; 1900. 64: 1899, 68. The statement of contagious and Infectious In-fectious diseases shows 187 cases during the month, classified as follows: Smallpox, Small-pox, 85; scarlet fever, 35; diphtheria, 23; chicken pox, 20; measles, 14; typhoid fever, 8; varioloid, 2. The summary of sanitary work for January records 432 visits and Inspections Inspec-tions made, 40 nuisances abated, 800 inspections in-spections of market places, groceries, hotels, commission-houses and bakeries, 270 loads of garbage and swill destroyed at the cremator and 3420 pounds of food condemned. During this month 77 houses containing contain-ing S52 rooms were disinfected,- of which 172 were for smallpox, 94 for diphtheria and 76 for scarlet fever. |
