Show LOCAL MEN ARE THIRD Six-Day Bicycle Race Is Won by the Root and Dorian Team. Root and Dorian won the six-day bicycle bi-cycle race from Stol and Vanderatuyft by fifteen feet. The distance covered was 23S6 miles, 6 laps. Samuelson and Williams were third, a lap behind, and Keegan and Logan were fourth. Root and Dorian had been riding strong since the race started and were predicted winners during the last two days. They gained their lap on the other riders at the time when the five teams, headed by Munroe and Walthour, quit the race, claiming unfair scoring. It happened about 3 o'clock ln the morning morn-ing and Dorian started out to lap the bunch. He was followed by Vanderatuyft Vander-atuyft and Williams. These three men gained half a lap and were relieved by their teammates Root, Stol and Sam- j uelson. These men completed the lap but Munroe and Walthour and McLean Mc-Lean started a wild sprint to catch the leaders and Samuelson waa unable to hold the pace. Since that time Sam and Williams have tried hard to catch up that one lap but have not been able to do so. The Salt Lakers ln the race had hard luck all around. All had falls, some of them being moat painful. Caldwell, who waa teaming with Hopper, ate a lot of Ice cream and then aeeped up a quart of ale oil top of that, with the re-cult re-cult that he waa taken with a violent cramp and Hopper rode continuously for eight hours, winding up with a magnificent mag-nificent sprint to gain a lap, but waa stalled off and had to retire from the race, completely exhausted. Had he been paired with another man he might have crowded the winners hard. The money will be distributed as follows: fol-lows: Root-Dorlon first. $1500; Vander-stuyft-Stol second, $1000; Samuelson-Williams Samuelson-Williams third, $750; Keegan-Logan fourth, $500; Krebs-Fogler fifth. $250; Gogoulti-Breton sixth, $200; Turvllle-Mettllng Turvllle-Mettllng aeventh, $150. |
