Show CUT DO WN THE GRADE 0. S. L Has Surveyed for Line That Cuts Out King Hill Haul. Rumors have been current for some time that the Oregon Short Line would construct a cut-off from Minidoka, Ida., to Glenn's Ferry, where it will again join the main line. It has been said that this line would If constructed, become be-come the main line of the O. S. L.'' There Is no doubt that the building of this would do away with a number of heavy grades, and would lessen the cost of handling trains to a certain extent, but at the local offices of the railroad the officials stated that, while preliminary prelimi-nary surveys had' been made of the proposed pro-posed line, it would be several years before It was built. The route of the new Minidoka branch, now under construction, Is through a practically level country, with good territory to draw from. Its primary purpose was the serving of the great number of immigrants that have settled there, but when the line waa surveyed It was decided to send the corps on ahead and try and locate a route, that at some future time, might be made into the main line. A fairly level cduntry was found, and It was shown that the heavy grade at King Hill could be done away with by building through. Reports have been made to the officials offi-cials here, but ho action has been taken in the matter, and it is improbable that any will be taken for some time. The route, as proposed, runs along the Snake river, and the scenery Is said to be especially fine. Trains would escape es-cape the run across the arid belt west of Minodoka, and make travel much more comfortable. |
