Show 7 I ?I , i lilVs'-li Dr. Wiley Claims That Drugs Arc Injurious to . Moral Life. NEW 'YORK. Nov. II. Continuing his crusade against adulterated articles of food. Dr. II. W. Wiley, chief of the bureau bu-reau of chemistry of the tTepartment of Agriculture, has addressed the students at the college of the city of New York. He declared that the adulteration f food and drugs had done more toward lowering lower-ing the moral life of this . country than had the excessive use of liquor. Among other examples of adulteration he stated that the product vt a widely advertised ad-vertised Vermont sugar bunh was made in Chicago and that this Chicago plant turned out more so-called maple sugar in one month than Vermont could produce In a year. i The bright green color of Imported peas, he said, was obtained by the use of sulphate sul-phate of copper, which is very injurious to health. Dr. Wiley cited many similar cases and appealed to the students to use all their power with the object of wiping out the practice of adulteration. |
