"SALT LAKE CITY, i:3,CC0." . - - That is The Telegram's motto, and that is the figure fig-ure which-' The Telegram intends stall denote the population jvithin a few years.' - - THIS NEWSPAPER nAS BEGUN A CAM-PAIGN CAM-PAIGN TO PUSH SALT LAKE CITY AND UTAH TO THE FRONT. ' Th first, gun of the campaign is a page'adver-tisement page'adver-tisement of city and State in the "greatest and most Influential monthly publication in the United States Harper's egaiine. , . The advertisement, paid for by The Telegram at large cost, will appear in the January Harper's. It was the intention to have it inserted in the Christmas Christ-mas number, but the copy reached New York too late for admission! v . ' 1 The advertisement Is reproduced elsewhere, IT IS SOMETHING NEW FOR UTAH. IT IS THE BEGINNING OF A NEW ERAAN ERA OF GROWTH AND PROSPERITY. It Is an advertisement that will open the eyes of Eastern people to the advantages and possibilities cf Utah. There are hundreds of thousands of persons per-sons living East of the Mississippi whose knowledge of Utah is of the vaguest character. THROUGH THE ENTERPRISE OF THE TELEGRAM THEY WILL RECEIVE THE INFORMATION THAT IT IS TO THEIR INTEREST AND TO THE INTER EST OF THE PEOPLE OF UTAH THAT THEY SHOULD POSSESS. The publishers of Harper's Magazine have written writ-ten to The Telegram complimenting it upon its innovation inno-vation aiid assuring the management that such an exposition of the State is certain to attract investors and home seekers. THAT'S WHAT WE WANT. OUR WISn IS TO SEE PEOPLE COME HERE AND HELP DEVELOP DE-VELOP STATE AND CITY. WE NEED THEM AND THEY NEED US. THE THING IS TO GET TOGETHER. i , The success of business concerns today is through advertising. That is an admitted fact. If advertis-, advertis-, ing will help a business why will it not help a State? There are thousands of moneyed men in the East whose money is bringing them but two or three per cent. They would be glad to invest it where they could get better returns if they only knew where. UTAn IS THE PLACE, AND THE TELEGRAM TELE-GRAM PROPOSES TO LET THE CAPITALISTS. KNOW ABOUT IT. The advertisement presents the advantages of Utah in a comprehensive manner. It points out that it is the greatest city between Denver and San Francisco THE METROPOLIS. OF THE MAGIC INTERMOUNTAIN COUNTRY. IT TELLS OF THE THREE GREAT RAILWAYS THAT ARE BEING BUILT INTO SALT LAKE. IT TELLS OF THE CROPS THAT ARE AND CAN BE RAISED ON THE WONDERFUL IRRIGATED FARM LANDS OF UTAH. It tells that the mineral yield of Utah in 1903 was :ii excess of twenty-one millions of dollars. It tells that Utah mines paid over five millions of dollars in dividends in 1903. It tells of the rich farming and mineral lands to be obtained when the Uintah reservation reser-vation is opened to the public. It tells of the health-fulness health-fulness of the climate andit tells of the great Salt Lake. It invites all who read it to come to Utah for a home or for investment. - , Hasn't that the right ring to it? Isn't that tha spirit of Utah and of Salt Lake City? We believe it is. We believe everyone is jus as anxious as The Telegram for the growth and development of the State. This is a big task. The Telegram has undertaken it single handed and it intends to keep up the work it has begun. BUT TO MAKE THE WORK A SUCCESS SUC-CESS THERE SHOULD BE CO OPERATION. EVERY BUSINESS MAN, EVERY ORGANIZATION, ORGANIZA-TION, EVERY RAILROAD, EVERY MINE OWNER OWN-ER OR MINING COMPANY CAN nELP IN THE (JOOD WORK. t WE MUST GET TOGETHER AND PUSH STATE AND CITY TO THE FRONT. It's done elsewhere. Take Kansas City for example. ex-ample. We read in a Denver paper the other day an interview with a Denver business man who had just returned from Kansas City. He said the people of that town welcomed strangers, showed them the city, pointed out its advantages and urged them to come and cast their lot with Kansas City. Every citizen there is an advertising committee of himself. What is the result? Kansas City is one of the most thriving communities in the middle West. WE HAVE A FAR BETTER CHANCE THAN KANSAS CITY. WE HAVE A RICH STATE AND A BEAUTIFUL CITY. WE ALTO UNTOLD LIES AT OUR DOORS AWAITING CAPITAL TO DIG IT OUT OF THE GROUND OR TO IRRIGATE IRRI-GATE THE GROUND THAT WILL BRING IT FORTH. If we unite in the effort to bring those here who will aid us in developing the State we will bring them and OUR STATE AND OUR CITY WILL BE TOE ENVY OF THE NATION There is no use sitting still and waiting for peo- j pie to come to us. We must bestir ourselves and make therri come. We must point out to them why it is to their interest to come. We can do it. WE HAVE THE GOODS, AS THE PHRASE GOES, I AND WE CAN 'DELIVER THEM. BUT WE MUST GET TOE CUSTOMERS. HOW DO MERCHANTS GET CUSTOMERS' THEY ADVERTISE. THAT'S WHAT WE'VE GOT TO DO. LET'S MAKE SALT LAKE CITY A CITY OF 150,000. AFTER IT REACHES TOAT FIGURE IT WILL GROW OF ITSELF. It's like saving money. The first thousand is the hardest to accumulate. accu-mulate. The rest comes easy. WE CAN DO IT IF WE ALL rULL TOGETHER, . i SALT LAKE CITY, 150,000. ' 1 |
