Show GOODING. TALKS OF AFFAIRS H IDAHO BOISE, Ida.. Nov. 15. Gov.-elect Frank R. Gooding was in the city Monday, his first visit here slrce election. He is busy getting his private affairs in shape preparatory pre-paratory to starting for St. Loulav He wishes to make a careful Inspection of the Idaho exhibit there, with a view of seeing how much of It can be used in the displav at Portland next year. It is essential, he said, that the State have a good display at the latter place, and he said he would do all he could to make the exhibit thoroughly representative of the resources and industries of the State and a credit to the people. Speaking of political matters, Mr. Gooding Good-ing said he was entirely satiafied that there were no new cases of polygamy in the State, and that there were no po-lygamists po-lygamists but those who . took plural wives before the manifesto. Nor did he believe there was church dictation. The people were , thoroughly aroused on the subject, he said, and the church could not dictate If it wished to, as it would be resented by Mormons. He added that the coming Legislature would do all that should be done in the enactment of legislation. There would be strong adultery laws, a strong unlawful cohabitation, law, and also any other measures necessary. Moreover, If it was found thab anything was .wrong in the Mormon counties, it would'bo corrected, Mr. -Gooding reiterated his determination determina-tion to make an effort to bring about the construction of a railway Connecting the northern and southern portions of the State, as he had received a great number of letters on the subject. .. |
