Show MILLS GIVE EIGHT HOURS Main Cause of Trouble in Telluridc District Is Removed. DENVER, Colo., Nov. 15. Notices were pected at the mills of the five big mines of the ToUurlde district last night that in the future the eight-hour day would prevail pre-vail in the mills. The plants concerned are those of the Smuggler-Union, Liberty Bell, Tom Boy, Nellie and Alta. It was the demand for this concession In the mills of the State that precipitated the strike in the mills and mines of Colorado Colo-rado and caused the bitter strife between unionists and mine-owners in the Tellu-rlde Tellu-rlde and Cripple Creek districts. The minimum wage promised under the new arrangwnent is $3 a day. At one time the Western Federation of Miners oflered to accept $2.75 for an eight-hour dey. While no authorised announcement to that effect has yet been made, the general opinion is that under the new order no discrimination will be made against the employment of union men. When seen tonight. Secretary Haywood expressed the most complete satisfaction with the news from Talluride. |
