Mr. Democrat Dem-ocrat said he would. " 'Well, Bir.' said the Republican, fully determined to offset anything In the way of votemaklng his opponent had accomplished, 'you declare- the Constitution says this and says that. Now, sir, does it not say that "the United States shall guarantee to every State a republican form of government?" govern-ment?" ' " 'It does,', answered the Democrat with a rather despairing look and tone. " 'Then, Blr, why do you preach Democracy?' De-mocracy?' "This was a poser, and the backwoodsmen back-woodsmen yelled for the Republican, and they voted for him, too." |
