Show FIRE FROM AMBUSCADE Attempts Made on Life of the Pumpman at Zieglcr. CARBONDALE. 111., Nov. 28. The pumping station nearly two miles from the Zlegler shaft and from which the water to the town is secured, was fired upon from ambush Saturday and Sunday Sun-day nights, and several shots were exchanged. ex-changed. - - - The Tittle Muddy river supplies the water and a thick underbrush marks the banks of the stream for miles. In the past a lone pumpman, having no connection with the shaft or strike, has teen stationed there, but now a strong guard- has been detailed there. No further troops have been sent to Zelgler during the forenoon, but company com-pany C.of this city has been ordered to be in readiness to proceed to the scene. The company may move at any hour. An important meeting of the United Mine-Workers' general officers is now being held to consider the situation. They will resist to the utmost any attempt at-tempt to abolish Camp Tanirer, where the union miners are now living. It is learned that Attorney Pratt has twice been fired on. |
