Xow that Mayor Thompson has signed the new anti-smoke ordinance it is to be hoped that the law-will law-will be enforced and Salt Lake made the smokeless city, it should be. It is announced that-'the measure mea-sure the Mayor approved is an ironclad one and was drafted for the purpose of reaching smoke violators who have successfully evaded the old laws covering cov-ering the -subject. Now that the proper kind of legislation is eperative the Mayor should see to it that the law is enforced. Let there, be no' partiality parti-ality shown. Punish the big offenders -as well as the small ones. , Go after the man who says he has-a pull and make him show his hand in court. If the new ordinance is not to be enforced Mayor Thompson has inflicted a great injury on the city by signing it A law that is not enforced is worse than no law, for it prevents the enactment of legislation legis-lation that might resulfln the desired effect Chief Sheets desires to make a record. If Mayor Thompson Thomp-son will instruct him to enforce the new anti- smoke law The Telegram is confident that Mr. Sheets will see that it is obeyed by big and little guns.
