The - completion of this short line to the coast will, i ' without doubt, greatly stimulate every line of business. I believe it si conservative, estimate to say that property values will within a few ' years increase 50 per cent. I am I satisfied that the present popula-. popula-. tion .will double In ten years. It would oe nard indeed to enumerate He the benefits that will come to fcalt Lake as the result of this new : the coast ... i ijTTWALKER, banker: The effect "villi certainly be very beneficial. I am; reliably informed that the re-riott re-riott which will be tapped by this '-; tin 'Is-one of the richest in the rountry. Salt Lake - wilL be quick ,' to feel; the effect of this and. will ; become the great commercial cert-.' cert-.' ter' of trie West.- Generally speak-v speak-v lag, property, values will 1 . believe, kuble within ten years. In 191S j the city will: have, I believe, a population pop-ulation of at least . 150.000. . ' JAMES A. CHIPMAN, banker:. This road to the coast has been sorely . 1 needed for many , years .. and the . fity will be quick to respond to Its . . r trood effects. - First of all it will do away with the doubt and fear that .. has existed in the minds of some as - to , the city's future. Senator Clark is. a Western man. Interested. I it the building up of the West, and be-will work to that end in every way. Property values will be. large-, ly increased and the population will probably be at least doubled. We . have every facility to make this the , great city of the West and this road affords us the opportunity for the I . accomplishment of this end. - LOUIS COHN, merchant: It ought to ' ; have a good effect tn business here . but persons must. not get carried away by this Idea that It is going j to. rain down $20 pieces by reason of another route coming here. -It is very likely at all events to have an I do not anticipate much improvement improve-ment wtthin that time. The population-will double easily in, ten years but property values may not advance ad-vance accordingly. Property values will naturally Increase but they will not double. ' ' W. O. TUTTLE of Tuttle Bros., real es-. es-. tate: If Clark will keep Independent of all other railroads, . and will en- '- courage the development ' of the steel and coal industries, he will make Utah another Pennsylvania, and Salt Lake a Western Pittsburg. Pitts-burg. . " - ' WILLIAM BARTLING.- Sew York Cash Store: This will be a big thing for Salt Lake a remarkably good thin? for the city, as soon as the transfer is made and everybody is dead sure the deal is going through. ' Everybody has the same idea as to " the progress of the city after the road is built Sixty per cent of the Los Angeles passenger traffic and an equal percentage of the freight traffic for Eastern points will come through Salt Lake.' ' C. A. WALKER, general agent of the Northwestern: It will certainly be a great thing for he State of Utah excellent result on the future development de-velopment of the State: While-1 do not care to look so far ahead, I agree, however, with Senator Kearns that our population ought to: Increase at the rate of 10,000 a year.- ' .' . V ' 'A.' RICH TER. real estate agentr As ; the building of the road is a-cer-rity, I am looking for a popula-, popula-, tWXf 150,000 in 1910.' While prop- rty at present is at a good stiff -. figure, 'more ready safes will then be-made and eventually the prop- erty will rise higher In value. Prices , ' at present, however, . are high . "enough in price. SA. M'KELLAR,- real estate agent: I ' think it is one of the best things that can happen to Salt Lake City. . Real estate will Increase 60 per cent for the next two years and at pres- - ent I think that real estate In Salt - Xake City is the best investment ; that a man can find anywhere. The San Pedro railroad Is certainly'go-' certainly'go-' lng to be the making of the town . ' and In ten years hence it is my opinion that the population wiir,be doubled. . ' WILLIAM E. HUBBARD of the Hub-i Hub-i bard . Real Estate and Investment company: There is no-question as to the completion of the road making mak-ing a great Increase in Salt Lake's 1 - business in every line. It will bring . In many solid and substantial clt-, clt-, lzens from other States. Property is - lower here than in any other city of ' equal fixe in the entire West. I i believe there is better opportunity , . here for Investment in real estate at a satisfactory profit than In any other place I know of . at the present time. I was recently in Los Angeles, where 'I waa in business for eleven years, and found residence property 'of equal distance from the business ' center to be at least three times as . hi?h as it is In Salt Lake. The population pop-ulation of this city should be at least 200,000 In ten years. This would, only mean an increase of a ' little more than 10,000 a year, which I do not believe is too much to naturally nat-urally expect as things now look. t , l. B. TUTTLE of Tuttle Bros., real . tater In sny opinion the people A.JU not believe tly?y will have the 'rodd until they hear the whistle. Hope has been, deferred so long that the confidence of Salt Lakers has been weakened. The completion of the road is two years away, and if there is any increase in business it ' will not bejla before tejtt year, and and. will be the upbuilding of this city. It will cheapen the cost of . transportation from this city west , and consequently Increase the business bus-iness of the 'City, for the cheaper . the cost of transportation to and from a city the more business will be done there. There is no telling what effect it will have on the population pop-ulation of Salt Lake but I look for . a great increase. This will make city property values much higher. L. J. KYES, city passenger agent for . the Union Pacific: It. will be a glorl- - ous thing for this State. It will open up many coal and iron mines and give the fruit farmers In the neighborhood neigh-borhood of St. George an opportunity oppor-tunity to get their produce to market. mar-ket. In this city I think it will have the Immediate effect of slightly increasing in-creasing property values. : It will help to make Salt Lake a great distributing dis-tributing point. GEORGE M. M'CONAUGHY. real estate: es-tate: The completion of the road - will certainly have a tremendous effect in advancing the interests of the city. This Is romething that all have been looking for for a long: time, and" hoping against hope that it would come. I look to see in the early future a very natural movement move-ment forward in all values, particularly particu-larly In real estate values, but every line of business in the city will be benefited Immensely. An advance of from 25 to 35 per cent In real estate values would not surprise . me, and I would be surprised if in ten years Salt Lake had not a population pop-ulation of at least 125.000. ; J. S. SCOTT, proprietor of of the Wind- j sor: The building pf this road will have a great effect on the whole State. -It will bring in many home-seekers home-seekers and business men. It will open up new mining districts and stimulate the life of many old ones. ' I believe It will have the effect of ' Increasing the population of Salt ( Lake to 150,000 within the next ten years. I look for property values to increase as the direct result of the construction of this roadc E. R. GRAY, general agent of the Union Pacific: I believe that the new road will add greatly to the - prosperity "of this community, and bring many men and their families here. Many Eastern houses will establish branrhes here. " J. T. HAMMOND, Secretary K)f State: The building of the road ought to - - (Continued on page 8.) . the beginning of a big Western railroad boom, and that as a consequence con-sequence Salt Lake-will be vastly benefitted and will develop Into a magnificent city. The population will, I believe, more than double In the next decade. ; S. STKINGER of the Stringer company: com-pany: The effect on Salt Lake's business will be very beneficial If this is genuine news. I do not doubt that Salt Lake will be able to boast a population of 125;000 persons . In ten yeais. Property values will not only Increase, but the market will . be firmer and more staple. It would be hard to estimate the percentage of increase in reality values that will follow the completion of the road. J. N. HARRINGTON of Harrington & Courtney, real estate and mines: , If prices go too high, people can't do business, but business will undoubtedly undoubt-edly be wonderful when the road gets through. We real' estate men dare .not say too much, but I believe be-lieve ' that Salt Lake's population will double within ten years, all right, unless some unforeseen calamity ca-lamity befalls the city or the State. ADOLF SIMON of the Pans Millinery company: That is a good thing. ' We cannot get too many -Western roads through here. How much it will increase business here is - a hard question to answer, but the increase in-crease will, I believe, be enormous. In ten years this city should have a population of 170,000 at least. This provides for an Increase of only 10 " per cent each year; There Is no question but that the opening of ' the Iron and coal regions in the southern part of the State will be vastly beneficial to the entire State. Much of the freight will now move from the coast thiough Salt Lake, rUher than over the Southern Pacific. Pa-cific. This road will open up a big business field for us, before untouched. un-touched. If the hew line connects with the Moffat road it will then be almost transcontinental and will be a great factor in the advancement advance-ment of the -My. San Pedro Railroad. (Continued from page 1.) immediately bring a large Increase ' in real estate valuations. The population pop-ulation of the city ought to be doubled dou-bled In ten years. GEORQE W. WESTERVELT, County Attorney: The building of the road should have a far-reaching effect in business and other activities. It will probably be the forerunner of . many other large enterprises. . In ten years, on the cards, the popula- lion might reach 200.000. A. LC SIMONDI, Deputy City Recorder; It will have a most beneficent effect on business. Although prices of real estate will increase, I do not think there will be any fictitious valuations. The population should be at least 150,000. R. P. MORRIS. City Treasurer: It will be a wonderful impetus to business activity, and property values will certainly increase. I, thlrric we should have a population of 100,000 In ten years. F. S. FERNSTROM. City Councilman: The building of the road will have a great effect on business and prices of real estate will go up. Salt Lake's population will be very materially ma-terially increased, but I wouldn't attempt at-tempt to say how much. . WALTER J. MEEKS, County Recorder: Record-er: Prices In real estate are very high now and cannot increase much. Business will be greatly increased in Salt Lake. The population will Increase greatly in three years I think it will grow about 15,000 persons, per-sons, providing the $an Pedro is built from both ends. DENNIS C. EICHNOR. District At- torney: Business will certainly be increased. The population. I should say. will be Increased about 60 per cent. LESTER D. FREED of the Freed Furniture Fur-niture and Carpet company: The completion of that road will be a wonderful thing for the city. I do not know of any other enterprise that will benefit the city so much as this one will do. This certainly makes us feel good. Business will naturally increase. I do not know how much of an increase there will be. but it will certainly be very great. .. I would not be surprised if in three years the business of this . city would double !n volume. The construction of the road will bring many here and many more will follow fol-low its completion. Salt Lake will almost certainly be a city of 150,000 in ten years. , Realty values will go up as a matter of course. Senators Clark and Kearns are deserving of the greatest credit. In this mat- , ter. It shows that they have the greatest confidence In the Industrial Indus-trial future of the State. S. V. SHELP, general manager Walker Bros. Dry Goods cbmpany: I believe be-lieve the building of the, new road will have a general good effect, and will stimulate all classes of busl- : ness. The State has been waiting for only this announcement to but the wheels of business advancement in motion. Business will certainly Increase, but to what extent it is impossible to say. I would be satisfied sat-isfied with an increase of -60 per cent. This Is a great thing jfor the city, and it will bring many persons per-sons here from other localities, who were waiting for Just this thing. In ten years the population of Salt Lake will easily double, not from the road alone, but because of the advancement and development In all other enterprises. J. P. GARDNER, clothier: There is absolutely ab-solutely no question but that this step will help business in every branch. It will build up the small mining camps, and will open up new mining country for development. - Salt Lake is the natural center from which these will draw their supplies. sup-plies. New machine shops will have to be built, and Salt Lake will get her share of these. It will. make a big difference in the growth of the city, which will Increase In population popula-tion more rapidly from now on than . It has ever done before. I believe that the building of this road is but . |
