Show COUNCIL IS WORRIED BY WAGES PROBLEM y The Council committee of the whole, which met last night, had another struggle strug-gle with the problem of a general Increase In salaries for city employees under the present condition of the city's finances. President Cottrell addressed the body and said that anticipated addition revenue, which was expected from certain sources, had failed to materialize. Instead of collecting col-lecting $10,000. the city got $600. City Auditor Reiser said that the Increases In-creases thus far granted by the Council would amount to $6960 a year. These advances ad-vances were of heads of departments, police po-lice and fire departments and Joint building build-ing employees. An Increase of 10 per cent In wages for the department employing laborers and teams would amount to $14,108. over last year. These Increases, together with others that had been requested would make a total of $11,068 per year. After a long discussion Councilman Robinson Rob-inson moved that the matter be referred back to the Finance committee, with the chairmen of other committees Interested associated. This committee was Instructed to prepare a tabulated report of all proposed pro-posed increases and submit It to the Council. |
