The young woman was taken in charge and locked in a room in a hotel, with two women to watch her. in the meantime young Hughes procured a ladder, lad-der, which he placed against the window, win-dow, and do,n this the young woman escaped from under the very eyes of her guardians. The couple hurried at once to Parson , Burroughs, where they were quickly married. The young man then returned to the hotel and told the women that they need not watch any longer, as their bird had flown and was now his wife. The mother arrived on the earliest train, several hours after the ceremony bad been performed. |
