Show - Friends of Robert 8. Campbell, general gen-eral manager of the Utah Light and Railway company, do , not like the statement of the Deseret Evening News, in which that paper said that a new man will be brought from the East to take the place of Mr. Campbell. An officer of the eompany said to THE TELEGRAM this morning that the statement of the News was made without authority and was done with the evident intention of injurying Mr. Campbell. "I, for one, as an officer of this company com-pany would like to know by what authority au-thority the News made that statement' state-ment' said the officer. "The Deseret News knows that Mr. Campbell has done more to put the company on a paying basis than any other manager that was ever connected with the company, it knows that Mr. Campbell has worked in season and out of season for the interest in-terest of the eompany. - "The News knows, or should know, that no man who has ever been at the head of the company ever had the same confidence of its employees as has Mr. CampbelL" n v . . t Friends of Mr. Campbell are insist- insr that the News give the source of its alleged information. Said an officer of the new eompany to THE TELEGRAM at noon today: "As fsr as I have been informed there will be no change either in the treasurer, Mr. Hills, or the general manager, Mr. Campbell, at least not for the present. It is possible that the new owners of the company will bring a man from the East to take charge of , the street railway part of the companv. to take the place of Superintendent , Read, but as far as I know there will be no change in the general manager, at least not for some time. Mr. Bancroft, Ban-croft, ss the personal representative of ' E. II. Harriman, will look over the entire en-tire situation before any changes sre made. Especially does th'is refer to Mr. Campbell, who is believed by a number of the new directors to be a good man for the position which he now occu- pies. " |
