Patrick, under sentence of death in Sing Sing for the murder of Millionaire Million-aire William M. Rice, who succeeded in placing before the Medico-Legal society of this city for its Investigation a question ques-tion on which he believes rests the w hole fabric of appeal for a new trial, has been informed through his counsel of the society's agreement to pass on the question. The society disclaimed any Interest In the matter outside of strictly medicolegal medico-legal questions involved and has ap-lointed ap-lointed a committee to enter on an investigation. in-vestigation. A report is expected February Feb-ruary 15. Patrick's new defense proposes to attack at-tack the evidence on which he was convicted, con-victed, the prosecution proving that Rice died of congestion of the lungs, induced in-duced by chloroform poisoning. By exhaustive medical research Patrick claims to have discovered that embalming, em-balming, under certain conditions, will cause congestion of the lungs. He argues ar-gues that the evidence based upon the congestion of Rice's lungs. Is, therefore, v orthlcss, and submits eleven questions, ques-tions, ten of them on the above point. The last question reads: "State whether from all the evidence the death of Rice resulted. In 3our opinion, from the administration or inhalation of chloroform and the reasons and 1-asls of your conclusion." |
