Show . 4 WORD COMES OF DEATH OF SON IN ACTION Sgt. Robert M. Barron Loses Life In Italy On AprU 21, With Infantry Sgt. Robert Maughn Barron, 24, son of George L. and Ada Maughn Barron, was killed in action in Italy, on April 21, according to ... word received by his parents from the War Department last Friday. Sgt. Barron had been confined to a hospital in Italy on account of illness, and it is believed that he had just gone back to the front. He was with the Infantry. He was born in Springville, January 14, 1921, and attended schools here, graduating from the local high school in 1939. He attended at-tended the Utah State Agriculture college at Logan for two years and took a prominent part in dramatics dramat-ics at that school. He was also an Inter-Collegiate Knight, and trained with the R. O. T. C. During the summer Just prior to entering the service, of 1941, he was employed by the Salmon National Forest in Idaho. He was employed at service stations sta-tions here and in Provo. Robert entered the service July 6, 1942. He took his basic training train-ing at Camp - Robinson, Ark., where he was a member of the Cadre. He later went to Camp Fannin, Texas, as an instructor, and also trained at Camp Bland-ing, Bland-ing, Fla., and at Camp Mead, Md., before going overseas in September Septem-ber of 1944. He had taken an active part in church work in the Third ward, having served as secretary in Mutual Mu-tual and also as a Scout Patrol leader. Survivors include his parents and one sister, Mrs. Dorothy B. Sitzer, Springville; also his grandparents, grand-parents, Mrs. H. C. Maughan of Logan and Mrs. W. G. Black of Springville. |
