Show Plans Underway For Seventh War Loan Queen Contest Jaycees, Lions And Kiwanis Club To Sponsor Queen Candidate, With Mrs. Shirley M. Child Already Selected To Represent The Jaycees The Seventh War Loan Queen Contest got off to a fine start Tuesday evening when a number of committee members, representing represent-ing various civic organizations and the city, met to outline plans by which it could be carried on in this city. ' It was decided that the Lions club, the Jaycees and the Kiwanis club should sponsor a candidate for the queen of Springville, and on Wednesday morning the Jaycees Jay-cees stated they had already selected se-lected their queen. Mrs. Shirley Mendenhall Child will represent the Jaycees and Jaycee Wives in the queen contest in which some fine competition is promised. The queen contest is statewide, and designed to stimulate interest inter-est in the selling of bonds during this, the Seventh and largest bond drive yet undertaken. The girl elected War Bond Queen of Utah will represent the majority of the state's E Bond sales during the 7th War Loan and for this reason, she will be given national recognition. She will win : A Trip to Hollywood all expenses ex-penses paid. A War Bond Citation from the Motion Picture Industry's War Activities Committee, to be presented pre-sented by her favorite star during dur-ing her stay in Hollywood. Screen Test Consideration, Visits to Hollywood's major motion mo-tion picture studios, Entertainment as guest of movie mo-vie stars and a date with Alan Ladd, Van Johnson, or such favorite fav-orite star as may be in Hollywood at the time of her visit. The queen candidates are to be nominated before May 14, and after af-ter their nomination, the full support sup-port of the community will be expected ex-pected to place the queen ahead of others in the state. Other details of the contest are to be announced as plans for the queen competition materialize. Attending the meeting Tuesday evening were, Mrs. Ernest Boyer and Mrs. Steve Miller, representing represent-ing the Jaycee Wives; Mrs. J. W. Grant, the Legion Auxiliary; Mrs. E. T. Crandall, co-chairman of the drive; Mrs. Harlan Boyer, Navy Mothers; Mrs. W. B. Gogarty, the P. T. A.; Alma Miner, American Legion; Emil Ostlund, the city mayor; Dr. C. A. King, Lions; Mrs. L. J. Loveridge, Mothers Study club; Mrs. W. W. Clyde, Alpha Beta club; J. A. Miller, Chamber of Commerce; J. N. Fuier, county chairman of Provo. J. W. Grant, general chairman of the Springville drive, was in charge of the meeting. |
