Show CHERRY HARVEST GETS UNDERWAY i . In order to harvest the Utah county cherry crop which will be at its peak next week, the Provo farm labor office sent 150 local workers into the orchards this morning and is bringing foreign laborers in for work, according to Lee R. Taylor, head of the farm labor office. From the Spanish Fork camp, 35 Mexican nationals were transferred trans-ferred to the Orem camp, plus 75 Mexicans who arrived Thursday from Weber county, making a total to-tal of 175 laborers in the Orem camp. Scheduled to arrive some time today were 35 transient laborers from the Northwest. These people will stay until the cherry harvest is over. About 90 to 100 carloads of cherries are expected to be harvested har-vested in the county this year. The storm two weeks ago damaged a small percentage of the crop, and brought the expected harvest down to 90 to 100 carloads from the county, compared with 127 carloads car-loads shipped out last year, according ac-cording to Mr. Taylor. |
