Show FEWER PEOPLE ATE OUT DURING PAST YEAR Americans ate more meals at home during 1946 and thus reversed re-versed a wartime tendency toward tow-ard eating out, it was reported. They nevertheless spent a record rec-ord high average of $330 each on food and drinks during the year. Higher prices "following decontrol decon-trol action" were said to have had a big part in boosting the average. Also, there was more food to buy. The $46 billion total spent on food and beverages in 1946 represented repre-sented more than 35 of all consumer con-sumer outlays for goods and services ser-vices during the year, department's depart-ment's Office of Business Economics Econo-mics said. |
