Show CHURCH SENDING FOOD GIFTS TO JAP FAMILIES This will be a happy Christmas for 116 families in Japan, to whom packages of food are being sent by the welfare program, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The lucky families are friends and relatives of church members in Hawaii who were found to be needy. They were selected by Mel-vin Mel-vin Weenig, president of the Central Cen-tral Pacific mission of the church. ' - The gift cartons were being packed Saturday at church welfare headquarters,! Salt Lake City, by a group of girl volunteers, most of them church members of Japanese Japan-ese ancestry, who belong to the LDS Japanese Fireside group. Each package weighs 22 pounds and contains: Three pounds of rice, 1 pounds of cracked wheat, 1 pounds of raisins, one pound of dried peaches, 1 pounds of sugar; two cans of lard, one can of meat, one can of jam, four cans of milk and four bars of soap. Several tons of clothing recently recent-ly were sent to needy families in Japan from Hawaii, and the food gifts are a follow-up of this activity. |
