Show CONGRESS ACTS TO GET VOTES Here is an example of Congressional Congres-sional nothingness: The House has unanimously approved ap-proved a Senate resolution, which no doubt went through the upper chamber with a roar, condemning Nazi outrages against the civilian population of occupied countries and expressing the view that those guilty of causing the outrages "should be punished." This resolution has no meaning except so far as it may comfort the kindred of the victimized peoples peo-ples and secure, for Congressmen, some good will. In its effect upon those guilty of committing the outrages it is an absolute zero. If Congress wants to implement its resolution and do something for the innocent victims of Hitler-ism, Hitler-ism, let it pass a resolution pledging pledg-ing the United States to cooperate with the democratic nations of the earth, in the future, in order that similar outrages will not occur. Let Congress tell the guilty aggressors ag-gressors that it is ready to support sup-port a world force to keep the peace and to punish those who wilfully assault innocent, peace-i peace-i loving peoples. Let it say, direct-I direct-I ly, that it favors the use of Amer-j Amer-j ican forces, if necessary, to main-1 main-1 tain civilization, whenever and wherever assailed. |
