Show LEGION SELECTS WINNERS OF ORATION CONTEST LaVern Case, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Case, won first place in the oratorical contest sponsored by the Springville post of the American Legion, Commander Comman-der Harlan Boyer announced today. to-day. Second place went to Carma Mendenhall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. C. Mendenhall, and third, to Jay Reed Bird, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reed Bird. The winners were presented with gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively, re-spectively, at an assembly in the high school. George Nelson, chairman chair-man of the Americanism committee, commit-tee, made the presentations. The three students gave their talks entitled, "The RightS We Defend", De-fend", at a meeting of the Legion last Wednesday evening at Memorial Memor-ial Hall, when George E. Larson of Spanish Fork, department commander com-mander of the Legion, also made his official visit to the local post. The first place winner competed in the district oratory contest at Spanish Fork and won second Place. She will enter state finals at Murray Saturday. |
