Show WAR IS SOURCE OF PLUNDER In case some Americans have overlooked the German method of warfare, we call attention to the news from Serbia which says that the German army "is conducting a systematic campaign of looting and confiscation' and unauthorized seizure of homes and property belonging be-longing to Serbians and foreigners, including Americans." The dispatch comes from Ray Brock, New York Times correspondent, correspon-dent, who adds, "Homes, apartments apart-ments and villas throughout Belgrade Bel-grade and in scores of resorts in northern and central Serbia and in Bosnia, have been sacked by Germans Ger-mans down to the last stick of furniture, fur-niture, the last shred of clothing, the last potato, and the last loaf of bread." There are other details, but the quotations above indicate that the German idea of war is about the same as the pirates' idea of plunder plun-der and loot. In fact, it is not too much to say that without the confiscation con-fiscation of property, amounting to the stealing of private possessions, the Nazi regime in Germany would have collapsed long ago. |
