Show Do You Remember? . . . llv MAT OK B ION EDICT Conn-ring T. U Hatch (Lo-Moyne), (Lo-Moyne), now of Suit Lake City, for an interview on his memories, of the old adobe school house days, we are glad lo submit his contribu-t contribu-t i ons: Afore fights occurred on the school grounds there (most of them starting in the school house) than he has witnessed in all the years since then; and he is quite a "fight fan," too. It seemed to be a form of recreation recrea-tion for some of the young men; they fought to the last ditch, after which they sauntered home friends! The fights were over everything, and nothing. In lieu of other outlets out-lets for excess energy, such as the games, swimming, and other recreational rec-reational pursuits common to schools of today, this fighting seemed to be regarded as a necessary neces-sary exercise. Some of the combatants were Will Brammall, Henry Fullmer, Will Rothwell, and, we believe, LeMoyne Hatch! Spelling bees were fun those days, when Philip E. Houtz was teacher. He often called the whole school together for such a test, and Mark Harmer or Moyne Hatch shared honors of spelling the room down, many times. Arthur and Ray Bartlett were among the best pupils (studiously) (studious-ly) in school. LeMoyne gave a list of boys and girls he remembers attending this school. While incomplete, it shows how we remember the folks we used to know: Zella and Mattie Brown; Milton Brown; Charley and LaVell Daley; Emma, Lucina, and Berthena Child; La veil Beardall; Eva and Edith Berry; Frank and "Squire" Groesbeck; Josephine Groesbcck; Jesse, Mark, and Dell Fullmer; Edith and Dimick Childs; Will and Jim Rothwell; Ella, Elsie, and Eastham Clegg; Frank and Ray Law; Ella and Emmett Dal-ton; Dal-ton; Ray, Ina, Eddie, and Ella Maycock; Lester and Dresser Bird; Myron, John, and Hannah Cran-dall; Cran-dall; Bert Worthen; Henry Fullmer; Full-mer; Frank and Eliza Noe. Will, Bird, Frank, Cora, Grace, and Maude Allen; Frank, Hattie, and Will Wignall; Austin, Ernest, and Harry Barlow; Lucius, 'Lias, and Asa Strong; Mable Fullmer; Clarence Ashcraft; Clarence Wads-worth; Wads-worth; Jim, Hyrum, Melvin, Asa, and Jesse Shepherd; Ray, Joe, John and Belle Clegg. Ralph Bate, Ralph Weight, Minerva Min-erva Bryan, Gid Daley, Edith Mason, Ma-son, LaVell Ostler, Earl and Lucia Mason, Sheridan and Eddie Ostler, Bird and Pricinda Huntington, Zella and Will Bramwell, Minnie, Zella, and Ernest Lambson, Stella Hatch, Will Peterson, Henry and Sarah Ann Holseybrook, Will Kirk-man, Kirk-man, Luella Tuckett, Sam Whit-taker, Whit-taker, and others whose names will be published later as remembered. remem-bered. Summing up memories of those school days, we find despite their inconveniences, those days are a vivid, happy, memory of carefree childhood; the beginning of adven- ture into the world of other people peo-ple than our own families. Unconsciously we absorbed some certain thing from each personality person-ality we met there something which kept memory of them through the years. Do you remember the beautiful Zella and Mattie Brown, known as "The Brown Sisters," who used to sing so harmoniously for all social, political, and religious occasions? They deserve a full chapter, so more later. Do you remember? . . . P. S. Thanks no end, May Weight Johnson, ' for the poetical comment on "Do You Remember?" Remem-ber?" Like your method of telling me about it; it's like telling the world, too. M. B. |
