Show MART W. BIRD HONORED BY RIO GRANDE Commemorating fifty years of service for the Rio Grande, M. W. Bird of this city, with five others from the Salt Lake division, was honored at a dinner Friday at the Hotel Newhouse in Salt Lake City, and was presented a beautiful, gold, fifty-year service pin. Wilson McCarthy, trustee, made the presentation of the pins, and Henry Swan, another trustee, gave a talk. Superintendent B. H. Decker was in charge of the meeting. meet-ing. Each of the honored service men responded with a talk concerning their experiences on the road. A large half-century anniversary cake centered the dining, table. Mr. Bird began his service October Oc-tober 10, 1891, as a messenger boy and mail carrier at the Rio Grande station located on Springville's Main street opposite the Harrison hotel. He later became an operator, clerk, and agent. He has served as agent at several stations in the Salt Lake division Bingham, Eureka, Eu-reka, Springville, and for the past twelve years at Provo. |
