Show PTA Takes Up Problem Of Junior High Site The Central PTA met Tuesday night to discuss the location of the proposed new junior high school, and heard representatives of both the city planning board and the school board. Glenn Tipton, repre.sentinp the city planners, told those present of a possible site of nearly eight acres just oast and north of the .Stake House which is centrally located as far as the student population pop-ulation is concerned, and which is not the case in some of the other sites which are being studied. stud-ied. Mr. Tipton said that Springville is unique in this undertaking in the manner in which the location for this school is being chosen.. Tho city and the citizens are cooperating co-operating with the school board to find the best possible place available. A committee formed from the Central PTA members, representatives from the chamber of commerce and city planning b;ird representative, have made a study of the possible sites with their availability to the present and future student body. Costs, roads and utilities, and having the children avoid a far as possible dangerous highways, were all considered. con-sidered. The proposed location would border the beautiful city park on one side, and adjoin the armory property. Harold Christensen, school board member, also spoke, saying that many things would help determine de-termine the decision on the site which would be chosen. First, it should satisfy a majority of the people, which this one seems to do as nearly as possible, and it must also be approved by the state board of education. The previous site purchased on the Grant school block had been too small. He spoke of the problems of building in the Nebo school district, dis-trict, which is the second largest in area in the state and takes in three high schools in different rtowns as well as many elementary schools in several communities. The school board is planning a building program in the whole district, dis-trict, with ground already purchased pur-chased for elementary schools in Spanish Fork and Payson, he reported. re-ported. Mr. Christensen said that the school board is trying to finance fin-ance this program without bonding, bond-ing, if possible. This coming summer, additions will be made to the Mapleton and Salem elementary schools to begin the building program in the district, dis-trict, he said. Mrs. Norma Gustavson, Central PTA president, was in charge of the meeting, and musical numbers were given by six girls from the music department under, the direction direc-tion of Harmon Hatch. The girls were Carolyn' Childs, Nina Mad-sen, Mad-sen, Jean Smith, Sadie Miller, Georgia May Ashcraft and Naomi Boyer. New officers of the Brook-side Brook-side PTA were also introduced. |
