Show Sales Tax General sales taxes were first imposed in the early depression days of 1930 as "extreme emergency" emer-gency" taxes and to meet a "temporary" "tem-porary" expedient. This was the case in Utah. Now, however, no apology is offered. It is recognized recogni-zed and accepted as a permanent part of our tax system. Its returns re-turns are large and its administration administra-tion economical. In so far as Utah is concerned it is difficult to see how we could provide essential public services without sales tax revenues. |
