Show By LYN CONNELLY THE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS CHRIST-MAS was full of activity in the Don McNeill home . . . There were not only decorations to be hung and gifts to be fc. Wit. x wrapped, but there were three separate celebrations celebra-tions . . . Festivities Festivi-ties began on December De-cember 20 with Kay McNeill's b i r t h d ay... Three days later, the toastmaster of the Breakfast Club radio program pro-gram celebrated his birthday . . . mcneill Then there was Christmas, of course, which was reserved for the three McNeill offspring . . . Tom, 16; Don Jr., 14 and Bobby, 9. Christmas Day at the McNeill's was truly a family affair . . . Mother and Dad Harry McNeill came down from Sheboygan, Wis. for an old-fashioned family dinner . . . Because Christmas fell on Monday this year, a work-day for the Breakfast Club gang, gift packages were not opened until Don returned from the ABC Chicago Chi-cago studios . . . Only twice in the 18-year history of the program has Don been able to spend Christmas Christ-mas morning with his family . . . Every other year he has been busy early in the morning, sending holiday holi-day greetings and music over the airwaves to his six million American Ameri-can and Canadian listeners. AIRWAVE CHATTER The next "Mr. and Mrs." radio ra-dio to come your way may be the Duke and Duchess of Windsor . . . They've been negotiating for many weeks for a program of their own . . . The question is, how much can British royalty discuss that would be of interest to an American Ameri-can audience? The Protestant Radio Ra-dio Commission has filed a petition peti-tion with the Federal Communications Communi-cations Commission for a TV channel chan-nel in each community to be devoted de-voted exclusively to public service serv-ice and non-profit institutions .... A prospective TV series will star Laraine Day and Leo Durocher ... It will be titled, appropriately enough, "Day With Durocher." A new song, eulogizing the late AI Jolson, will shortly be published. |
