Show Citizens Asked To Lend Paintings For Johnson-Hafen Memorial Exhibit Jan. 14 9 i and bring them to the Art Building. Build-ing. Both artists to be honored are natives of Springville and have done much to further art appreciation apprecia-tion in this community. Mr. Johnson was art instructor and curator of the April exhibits at the Art Building for many years, in addition to doing considerable con-siderable painting. Mr. Hafen was noted for his fine art work and helped to carry on the art movement begun here by a contribution from his father, John Hafen. To him, also, is given much credit for the beautiful tile pieces found on the floors of the Art Building. 5 Anyone in Springville or Mapleton Ma-pleton who has paintings by the late artists, Wayne Johnson and Virgil Hafen, are asked to lend them to the high school for the Memorial Exhibit for these two to be held in the Art Building from January 14 to January 31. Paul K. Walker, chairman of the art board, said the exhibit is being sponsored in appreciatnon for the work done by Mr. Hafen and Mr. Johnson, and as an expression of gratitude by the art committee, by the Hafen-Dallin club, the school and townspeople for the many contributions made by these two men to the Springville art movement. move-ment. , The works of both artists hang in many homes throughout the area and it is the desire of those sponsoring the exhibit to have as many as possible assembled for display. Th exhibit will be opened on Sunday, January 4, and remain open through the remainder of the month. Those who have paintings by Mr. Johnson or Mr. Hafen are asked to bring them to the high school this week, so they may be hung during the coming week. If owners of the pictures are unable to bring them to the school, if they wll call the high school or any members of the Hafen-Dallin club, someone will pick them up |
