Show Wed 50 Years ... - j v K Y ; ; ; " -. ; , ; ' I ., .. ... , J Mr. and Mrs. Harold Alleman Harold, Josie Alleman Observe 50th Wedding Anniversary in San Diego "Two Prominent School Teachers Wed" was the heading fifty years ago in the Springville paper, which announced the Salt Lake Temple marriage of Harold Alleman and Josie O. Houtz. Tuesday, August 14, 1951, this happy event was celebrated in San Diego, California, Cali-fornia, by friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Alleman. At the time of the marriage each had taught in the Springville schools. This marked the end of Josie's public school teaching, but Harold was to carry on for forty years in his chosen profession. Both had been active in organizations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and this activity continued along with prominent community activities in Springville until they moved to San Diego in 1949. ' . Mr. Alleman served two terms or four years as mayor of Springville Spring-ville City and also as councilman 4 years and as Justice of the Peace two years. During his term of office many improvements such as sidewalks side-walks and electric lights were installed to help make Springville the attractive home town of today. In the church, with the help of his wife he served as Kolob Stake Sunday School Superintendent, as a member of the the Stake High Council, and as a beloved Bishop of the Second ward of Springville. Other civic activities on which they have generously worked were: original library board, Kiwanis club and art committee. In the latter connection Harold gave one of the addresses at the unveiling of the initial art pieces which started the present collection: Hafen's "Mountain Stream" and Dallin's "Appeal to the Great Spirit". Josie's civic activities included leadership leader-ship in the Mothers Study Club, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers in addition to various assignments in all of the LDS church auxiliaries. Josie and Harold are parents of six sons and daughters, five living liv-ing and sixteen grandchildren. They are: Fred, Jean H., Jane, Ray and Grant Alleman. Fred B. married Elizabeth Gordon and their children chil-dren are: Betty Jean, Margaret, Caroll Ann, and Collene of Springville. Spring-ville. Jean H. married Ruth Christensen whose children are: Carol Ruth and Gordon Jean of Salt Lake City. Jane married G. Ray-Jones Ray-Jones and are parents of Helga Lorraine of Salt Lake City. Ray Starr married Nell Caffall and they are parents of John Caffall, Mary Jo, Harold Davies, Kathleen and' David Starr (born Aug. 1, 1951) of San Diego, Calif. Grant Edward married LaRee West and are the parents of Nadine, Calvin Edward and Robert Glenn of Salt Lake City. |
