Clark, 54, of Salem, a friend. Henry Peterson and Mr. Clark (Continued on Page Ten) Tragedy struck the second home in Springville within a few days when another young man, Gustin H. Peterson, 34, and little son, Michael, 6, lost their lives Sunday while fishing in Strawberry Reservoir. Res-ervoir. The first of two fatal accidents within the week, occured Thursday Thurs-day when Keith Daybell, 32, was killed in a truck accident near a sawmill at Soapstone, Wasatch county. Funeral services for Mr. Peterson Peter-son and his son Michael will be conducted Thursday (today) at 2 p.m. in the Fifth-Sixth ward chapel directed by J. Y. Bearnson of the Fifth ward. Friends may call at the family residence, 337 South Second East before the services. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery directed j by Claudin Funeral Home, with military rites conducted by the Springville Post 28, American Legion. Le-gion. The accident involving the Petersons Pet-ersons occured at about 2:40 p.m., Sunday, near the east shore of the Strawberry reservoir, where the waters of the lake were very choppy, chop-py, witnesses said. The little boy apparently became be-came panicky and he was frantically frantic-ally holding to his father's back when the two went down together in about 15 feet of water, witnesses stated. Nephi Grastite of Heber City, a commercial fisherman and Clinton Jacobs of Salt Lake City, witnessed witnes-sed the accdient and rushed to the floundering boat in Mr. Grastite's launch. They rescued the elder Mr. Peterson and Clark. Later Sheriff Eugene Payne of Wasatch county arrived and directed di-rected seining operations to recover re-cover the bodies of the drowning victims. Using equipment furnished furnish-ed by Mr. Grasitite and Earl Lloyd of Heber, they recovered the father's fath-er's body and later that of the son. The elder Mr. Peterson was taken to Heber City hospital, suffering suf-fering from shock and exposure. Mr. Clark was not hospitalized. Augustin (Gustin) H. Peterson was born August 19, 1916, at Salem, Sa-lem, a son of Henry A. and Lettie Davis Peterson. He married Myrtle Jorgensen March 29, 1941 in Salt Lake City. He was a veteran of World War II and was employed at Geneva Steel Company. Survivors include his parents, Salem; his widow; one daughter, Vicky Lynn Peterson,. 4, Springville; Spring-ville; two brothers and two sisters, Jordan Peterson, Salem and Richard Rich-ard Peterson, Payson; Mrs. Emma Bradford, Springville, and Mrs. La-Ree La-Ree Ottesen, Salem. Michael Don Peterson was born July 14, 1945 at Springville. He would have entered school this fall. |
