Show Forage Production To Be In Demand Report Indicates Forage production will be in great demand this year according to an article received today frcm the USAC, Logan. Alfalfa is the king of the forage crops. The best variety to plant this year is Ranger and there is plenty of seed available. This is sown -inch deep in a firm, moist seed bed at 8-10- pounds per acre. The application of 100 pounds of available phosphate per acre at the time of planting is very desirable. A new treatment to control alfalfa weevil has recently been developed. The use of chlorodane spray in the spring when the alfalfa crop has just started has proved to control weevil and to increase the yield of hay from 1st crop and second crop cuttings. There is no better way to increase in-crease hay than to control weevil in the adult stage. The best time to cut hay is at the stage of 1 10 bloom. Since so many of the hay crop are now baled for convenience in handling it is recommended that the bales be removed from the field to avoid damage and also interference inter-ference with the next crop. |
