Show Music Students Rated Superior In Two Contests Miss June Wood, soprano soloist solo-ist and a string trio consisting of David Dalton, Stephen Clark, and Alice Erickson received top rating of superior at the first district mdsic contest held recently at the Springville high school. Musicianship and exceptional talent were displayed by the contestants con-testants entering, all of whom were rated as excellent except the two top numbers which received superior. The contest was sponsored by the Musettes, a member of the National Federation of Music clubs, which carries out the talent search on a national scale. President Pres-ident of the state federation, Mrs. Gordon Schoenfcld and the. chairman chair-man of state junior festivals, Mrs. V. C. Van Etten, also Mrs. H. IJ. Mensel fourth vice-president, were highly complimentary with the fine talent displayed. As a reward for their efforts the participants- rated superior will receive a six months scholarship of study. Miss Wood will study under J. G. Kemker, a native of Holland and professional instructor and the trio is entitled to six months instruction in-struction under Jacob Bos, Ardean Wat ts and William H. Sorensen, all of Springville Institute of Music, State Winners The trio and Miss Woods were entered in the state-sponsored contest con-test in Salt Lake City last Tuesday and were again rated superior, receiving re-ceiving certificates. Miss Jane Harrison, on last minute min-ute notice, participated in the state contest in place of Miss Ericksen, who was injured Monday night in an automobile accident. |
