Individuality is the aim of po-lilii'al po-lilii'al liberty. James Fenimore Cooper. Brookside School Arline l'ayne, reporter Mr Wilson's fifth grade has a new training teacher. Her name is Mary Ellen Parmley, and she is from BYU. She goes there in the forenoons ana nere in the afternoons. after-noons. She is teaching us music, language, spelling and social science, besides helping us in our-gomes our-gomes at recess. We have new class officers each week and they take care of the class while we have certain activities. This week, Sandra Jackman and Leon Lee are appointed to hunt up news to report re-port to Arline Payne. In observance of American education edu-cation week, Mrs. Lewis' room had two main events. One day, F. C. Packard, president of Springville Banking Company, came and gave a talk to the students. He told us that if we would save part of the money that people gave us, or what we earned, we would have money when we really needed it, and the safest place to kep our money was in a bank. It will be sure to be there when we need it. He showed us pictures of the old bank building, build-ing, built in 1891, and said that the walls of this old bank had been built so well that they were used for the frame walls of the new building. He invited us to come and visit the bank. Friday we had an afternoon of music, with Miss Irons' first grade and Mr. Mason's fifth 4 grade invited. Mrs. Mary Bird played many kinds of piano music, imitating a music box and a player piano in some of them. Mary Jane Bird later played a staccato selection to show how a pianist hit the keys and jerked the fingers away quickly as if she were hitting a hot stove. We enjoyed en-joyed this program and what she told us about music. We clapped and clapped. Mrs. Stuart's fourth grade are studying Indians. They have a very fine collection of Indian dolls to show how the different tribes of Indians dressed. Different committees commit-tees are working to find pictures and information on the various ideas about Indians. We also built a large horn of plenty and are making fruits and vegetables to put in it. Mrs. Boyer's class went on a trip last week to see turkeys and sheep. They visited the turkey farms of Ira Allen and Aaron Williams Wil-liams in Mapleton, and of Herb Miner in Springville. They saw white turkeys and dark turkeys and saw them spread their fans and gobble at the children. They also visited Dallas Holley's sheep feed yards and saw the lambs. They also saw chickens, ducks, and a cow. Mrs. Kay Johnson, Mrs. Myrle Astle, Mrs. Louie DeRose, Mrs. Ira Rostron, and Mrs. Martin Reed helped with the transportation. transporta-tion. Mr. Mason's fifth grade is making mak-ing friezes to show the first Thanksgiving. Different commit- tees have different walls to decorate. |
