State Delta Kappa Gamma Head Mrs. Mae ' Huntington was elected president of the state Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary society for women teachers of Utaft- during dur-ing the state convention conducted at the Joseph Smith building in Provo Saturday. She was elected for a 2-year term. Other officers named at the time were, Mrs. Blanch Nelson of Logan, first vice-president; Mrs. Sarah McCracken of Ogden, second sec-ond vice-president; Mrs. Jessie Arrowsmith, sister of Mrs. Huntington, Hunt-ington, Provo, corresponding secretary; sec-retary; Ora Jean Chipman of Salt Lake City, recording secretary. Keynote speaker at the convention conven-tion was, John Breinhardt of the BYU faculty, who discussed the subject, "Ways' for More Harmonious Harmon-ious Human Understanding." Corsages Cor-sages were presented to Miss Her-mese Her-mese Peterson and Mrs. Margaret Maw in recognition of their outstanding out-standing contributions to education. educa-tion. Miss Peggy Lee Whiting gave vocal solos and violin selections were rendered by David Dalton accompanied by Miss Alice Erick-son, Erick-son, who also gave piano numbers. Following the convention and noon luncheon at Provo, the ladies lad-ies assembled at the Springville Art Gallery for an Art Tea. An impressive theme, "Inter-cultural "Inter-cultural , Appreciation" was carried car-ried out in various details of the lovely affair. The tea table held a georgeous centerpiece of pink carnations and tall white tapers were arranged on either end. Attired in white formals, the Misses Ann Merrie Fry, Marie Fullmer, Marie Aver-ett, Aver-ett, Marilyn Wight, and Nina Barney Bar-ney served. Background music was furnished by Ann Johnson, Betty Hoover, Beulah Webb and Claudette Hill. In charge of the tea was Rea Straw of Springville, assisted by Mary Nelson and Eleanor Allan of Spanish Fork and Laura Nielson of Springville. Mrs. Catherine D. Wills was in charge of the music. As a fitting climax to the event, Mrs. Huntington conducted the group on a tour of the art gallery. |
