SALT LAKE CITY Glen Weight, regarded as one of the best basketball players to ever represent Springville high school, came in for some additional honor this week. Glen, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Weight, was named to the Class E basketball team that will play the A all-stars August 17 in Utah university fieldhouse in the third annual Shrine-Coaches all-star game. A North-South football foot-ball game will be played in the Ute stadium August 18 and net proceeds from the two games will go to the Shriner's Intermountain hospital for crippled children. Not only was Weight named to the B team, but ho will be the tallest player on the floor. Standing Stand-ing 6 ft. 4 in., he is one inch taller than Dixie's Lee Atkin, next tallest tall-est of the all-stars. Weight uses his height effectively under the basket and is also a good long-shot and floor man. He was selected on the all-state second team following fol-lowing the Class B tournament. He will be a credit to Springville and to the all-stars. Other Region Three players selected se-lected were: Van Burgess, Max Pierce, American Fork; Floyd Farley, Far-ley, Lincoln; Stan Collins, B. Y. high; and one class A eager, Ronnie Ron-nie Kump, Provo was also named. Springville Men to Coach . . . Springville sports fans will have more than just their high school star represented in the big Shrine game. The two coaches, Glen Clark of the B squad and Art Hughes of the A team, are both Springville high school graduates. Art coached the Red Devils to several district titles and was coach to Glen Clark, who is now at South Sevier high school at Monroe. Art is head basketball coach of the champion Jordan high club. Selection of the twenty-four players was announced by Earl Ferguson, Brigham City, chairman chair-man of the Utah high school coaches association selection committee. com-mittee. As in 1949 and 50, El Kalah Mystic Shrine and the coaches association as-sociation will co-sponsor the games and clinic which will feature in-, in-, struction by nationally prominent college coaches. The players, all graduating seniors, sen-iors, will begin preliminary training train-ing at their homes in July and will report for organized practice Monday, Mon-day, August 6, living in the university univer-sity dormitory. Utah football coaches who will handle early training and be associated as-sociated with guest mentors in final preparation and the games are Dale Sorenson, Jordan, Earl Ferguson, Box Elder, Larry Palmer, Pal-mer, Moab and Taft Watts, Millard.
