Show Red Devils To Compete in BYU invitational Track Meet Sat. is Springville high school Red Devils will enter the BYU's thirty-eighth annual Invitational Track and Field Meet and Relay Carnival this Friday and Sat- urday at the Y stadium weather permitting. Friday will be devoted to Jr. high school competition with Senior Sen-ior high and Junior colleges competing com-peting Saturday. In last year's Invitational, Springville walked off with four firsts. Morgan Thomas won the 100 and 220; Jerry Childs won the Javelin and Springville's 880 relay re-lay team placed first. Hopes for points this 'year are bright with Childs back throwing the javelin. Billy Bird is expected to be among the top shot throwers while Glen Weight has been tossing the discus out for good marks. Sprints will be handled by Ted Van Leuvan and Art Reid, two consistent point-getters. point-getters. Porter is coming along nicely in the high hurdles. Eves will compete in the mile race. Devils Place Second . . . In the District meet held at Payson last Wednesday, the Lions walked off with top honors with 91 points followed by Springville Spring-ville with 83 and Spanish Fork with 46. . . . Top performers for the Red Devils were Porter, VanLeuven, Eves and Weight, all of whom placed first in their respective events. Reed, Binks, Burrows, Childs and Bird came in for seconds. sec-onds.
