The long tables were beautifully decorated with fall flowers. A general theme of beauty in the home, church and community was effectively carried out during the entire evening's entertainment. Brockbank and Mrs. Margaret Miner, class leaders, and Mrs. Cloe Fox, Mrs. Josie Alleman and Ralph Snelson. d The Gleaner class of the First ward M. I. A. composed of about twenty members enjoyed a skating party at Park Ro-She Wednesday night. Arrangements for the entertainment en-tertainment were in charge of Miss Zelma Thorpe, and Miss R. L. Lawrence at her home in Ptovo. A nicely arranged dinner was served at one long table which held a beautifully decorated birthday cake as a centerpiece. The afternoon was spent in general gener-al sociability. There were present Mrs. Lela Sumsion, Mrs. Lydia Sumsion, Mrs. Hazel Roylance. Mrs. Leland Mc Kenzie, Mrs. Ray McKenzie, Mrs. Electa Cox of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Lula Mendenhall, Mrs. J. L. Whiting and Mrs. E. A. Lee. The guest of honor was presented pre-sented with a number of lovely birthday gifts. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Holdaway of Vineyard spent two days of the past week with Mrs. Hoklaway's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Handley in this city. They came especially for the birthday of Mr. Handley on Tuesday. ess to members of the Ladies Literary club at her home Thursday Thurs-day evening. A feature of the program was a review of the book "Katrina," given in an especially interesting manner by D. B. Welch. Mrs. George Bone gave two piano selections and Miss Peggy Cran-dall Cran-dall entertained with a Thanksgiving Thanks-giving reading. Proceeding the program, a well arranged luncheon was served at small tables to seventeen sev-enteen club members and Mrs. W. W. Clyde as a special guest. President Elizabeth Salisbury presided pre-sided and announced the next meeting of the club to be held at the home of Mrs. Ruby Christen-sen, Christen-sen, December 2. Smart in honor of Veryl Davis and Woodrow Thompson who were married Tuesday evening eve-ning in the Salt Lake temple. Progressive "House" was played play-ed during the evening, prizes for the game being won by Betty Boyer, Thomas Hemingway, Leonard Leon-ard Zobell and Veryl Davis. A light lunch was served to the following Miss Geneviere Prows, Cornell Peters, Miss Etta Livingston, Liv-ingston, Drew Leonard, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Clark, Miss Francis Fran-cis Brimhall, Gerald Manson, Miss Sara Marie Binks, Thomas Hemingway, Miss Vera Wheeler, Leonard Zobell, Miss Betty Boyer, Boy-er, Max Sumsion, Mr. and Mrs. Lorell Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Newell Weight, the guests of honor, Miss Veryl Davis, Wood-row Wood-row Thompson and the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Kay Johnson. John-son. Complimentary to Miss Veryl Davis and Woodrow Thompson, who were married this week, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Robinson entertained en-tertained at a dinner at their home in Provo, Saturday night. Covers were laid for the guests of honor and Miss Genevieve Prows, Cornell Peters, Miss Marie Peters, Russell Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Kay Johnson. The adult class of the Second ward M. I. A. held a delightful social in the form of a "harvest feast," in the banquet hall, Wednesday Wed-nesday night. An outstanding meeting of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, camp Aaron Johnson, was held Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Josie Alleman. Mrs. May Bil'd, first vice captain was in charge. The program began with vocal selections by a quartet composed of Mrs. Mary Weight, Mrs. Helen Sanford, Mrs. Philda Finley and Mrs. Lola Weight, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Witney. Miss Mildred Parry gave a reading and Ann Harmer read a poem, "Trees." The lesson on "Pioneer Memorials" was given in an interesting manner by Mrs. Mary J. Finley. Mrs. i Ellen Anderson entertained with i two vocal solos, with Mrs. Arva j Bone, accompanist. The history of Mrs. Abigail Gloyd Hyde given by her granddaughter, Mrs. Leona C. Olsen. was especially interesting. In connection with the history, Mrs. Olsen exhibited a number of beautiful heirlooms of her grandmothers. Each of the ladies taking part on the program were costumed in dresses which had once belonged to this very prominent pioneer. The meeting was concluded with benediction by Mrs. Eliza Boyer. Refreshments were served by Hostesses Bertha Rothwell, Ella Miner, Ann Harmer, Har-mer, Jennie Starr. Ethel Loher and Mrs. Alleman. Mrs. Grace McKenzie was especially honored Tuesday afternoon, aft-ernoon, with a surprise birthday party given by her daughter Mrs. |
