The Department's monthly employment-unemployment an- alysis pointed out that December's Decem-ber's non-farm employment estimate es-timate of 247,100 was 1,800 jobs better than November and 4,900 jobs ahead of December, 1957. With manufacturing now the bellweather of the State's economy, econ-omy, changes from a year ago are heartening, the report noted. not-ed. December's estimate of 37,-400 37,-400 employed is 700 jobs ahead of 1957. And the seasonal decrease de-crease between November and December this year at only 800 jobs is in good contrast to the 1957 November-December drop of more than 1,500 jobs. Primary metals continue to be the weak spot with 600 fewer at work this year than last. The report pointed out that some recovery is taking place in mines. Led by metal mines, total mining increased by som 300 jobs between November and December to reach 15,608. This is only 200 jobs less than in December 1957. Generally open weather and a big backlog of projects have helped construction, the report said. December employment of 14,600 tops last year by .1,000 jobs. ; Transportation, communication communica-tion and utilities are strong but have not yet regained 1957 levels! Current employment of 21,900 is off 200 jobs from a year ago, the report added. Usual seasonal patterns are noted in trade, the report said. December's job estimate of 27,600 in 800 jobs better than a year ago, the report said. Government's employment of 59,200 is an increase of 800 jobs over November, the report said the increase was seasonal season-al and was centered in the federal fed-eral segment.
