Fire insurance for renewal at January 1, 1959, amounting to $1,015,824 was again discussed by the Board and on a motion by Dr. William H. Sorensen, seconded by Glade Stone the matter was tabled for a full quorum of the Board at their next meeting on February 2, 1959. Motion by 'Dr. William H. Sorensen, seconded Carl A. Patten, that the Board of Edu-cation resolve to arDroDriate for the district, sufficient funds to be eligible to receive Feder-al aid for three high school science departments. Motion by Dr. William H. Sorensen, seconded Glade Stone, the the Board pay one third cost of band uniforms in the three larger junior high schools and one half cost of band uni-- i forms in the three smaller, jun-ior high schools. The Board discussed the question of fire hazards in var-ious schools and decided to make inspection of buildings in order to make any necessary corrections. The request to use schools for Polio drive discussed by the Board. It was their decision that fund drives of this sort should all be made at one time and receipts distributed to the various organizations requesting contributions. liebo District School Lunch Report Shows Cash Balance of $24,20124 1st to December 31, 1958, showed $3,878,321 budgeted, $1,771,728.85 expended, $2,106,-592.1- 4 balance; 46 expended. Statement on building con-struction to January 19, show-ed total contracts $1,151,063,61 expended $816,204.31, balance unexpended $334,859.30. Bid quotations to purchase meat for the school lunch pro-gram, February 1st to May 29, 1959, were presented, and on a motion by Carl A. Pat-ten, seconded by Dr. William H. Sorensen, the low bid of the Utah County Packing Company A summary of business ta-ken up at the meeting of Nebo School Board of Education at their regular meeting Monday January 19, directed by Floyd Harmer of Payson, president of the board, is as follows: Claims, amounting to $93,-341.9- 7, lists of which were fur-nished the Superintendent and mailed to members January 16, were approved for payment operations for the period July 1st to December 31, 1958 show-ed receipts for the period of $153,045.53,.. less., expenditures $128,834.04. leaving cash bal-ance of $24,202.49; purchased foods inventory $22,781.55, U. S. D. A. inventory $18,788.62, making a grand total worth of $65,772.66. Report for the period July on a motion by Dr. William H. Sorensen, seconded by Carl A. Patten. Statement of funds to Janu-ary 9, 1959, showed balance at January 1, 1959, $861,637.77 plus deposits to January 19, making a total of $884,218.09, less expenditures to January 19, leaving a balance at Janu-ary 19, 1959 of $795,902.13. Statement of School Lunch More Jobs This Year Than Last Jobs are much more plenti-ful this year than last al-though still below the long term trend .reported Curtis P. Harding, Administrator, Utah Department of Employment Se-curity. The Department's monthly employment-unemployme- nt an- - alysis pointed out that Decem-ber's non-far- m employment es-timate of 247,100 was 1,800 jobs better than November and 4,900 jobs ahead of December, 1957. With manufacturing now the bellweather of the State's econ-omy, changes from a year ago are heartening, the report not-ed. December's estimate of 37,-40- 0 employed is 700 jobs ahead of 1957. And the seasonal de-crease between November and December this year at only 800 jobs is in good contrast to the 1957 November-Decemb- er drop of more than 1,500 jobs. Primary metals continue to be the weak spot with 600 fewer at work this year than last. The report pointed out that some recovery is taking place in mines. Led by metal mines, total mining increased by som 300 jobs between November and December to reach 15,608. This is only 200 jobs less than in December 1957. Generally open weather and a big backlog of projects have helped construction, the report said. December employment of 14,600 tops last year by .1,000 jobs. Transportation, communica-tion and utilities are strong but have not yet regained 1957 levels! Current employment of 21,900 is off 200 jobs from a year ago, the report added. Usual seasonal patterns are noted in trade, the report said. December employment of 60,-80- 0 is up 1,500 from last year. Most of this emprovement was in the retail segment. Finance , continued its un varying uptrend, the report no-ted, with the current estimate of 10,000 jobs an all time high. Service industries, off sea-sonally from November, are rapidly regaining the trend in-terrupted last year. December's job estimate of 27,600 in 800 jobs better than a year ago, the report said. Government's employment of 59,200 is an increase of 800 jobs over November, the report said the increase was season-al and was centered in the fed-eral segment. Most of the in-crease came in post offices.
