Show R. D. T. C. STUDENTS WILL SJI PLEDGES Blank Forms Requiring Signature of Parents Issued Is-sued at West High. Blank forms requiring tho bignaluren of both parents and students were issued at' the West high school yesterday yester-day afternoon to tho prospective members) mem-bers) of the junior reserve- officers' training corps at that school. The blank states the rules and regulations of the corps, also the sizes of the clothing to be worn by the member. Information stated on the card reads: "I understand that the rules and regulations reg-ulations of the school apply to classes -iu the E. O. T. C; that the penalties for the infraction of the rules laid down for ". O. T. C. members will not only apply in military formations, and iu other classes, but elsewhere, under the jurisdiction of school authorities. "I further understand that, to hold office in the E. O. T. C, 1 must have and maintain an academic standing satisfactory sat-isfactory to tho school authorities. "I shall accept full responsibility for tho uniform issued to me, and agree to maintain it in the best possible condition. con-dition. Also, to return it to the board of education at such time and place as may be required of me. "In return for tho uniform and equipment, supplied me without charge by the government of tho United States, and for the instruction under army officers detailed by the war department, de-partment, I hereby agree to bo faithful iu the performance ot all mv R. O. T. C. duties, and to obey tho regal orders of my superior officers. "I also pledge my loyalty to the United iStates." This is the first binding step that the government has taken, aside from that of supplying government officers for instructional purposes, of making tho local institutions an official E. O. T C. school. Each cadet was instructed to return the form early next week. It will be necessary to have the signatures of both student and parent in order to pave the way for the issuing of equipment equip-ment and clothing. Clothing to be issued, according to the card, is hat, hat cord, shirt, collar ornaments, coat, breeches, leggings, shoes and overcoat. In addition, the member of the corps may buy government clothing at the quartermaster's cost. |
