Show ILLEGAL COINS TO BE CONSIGNED TO FLAMES More than $2000 worth of coins, displayed dis-played and sold as "California gold coins," which were collected from local lo-cal jewelry stores recently by William H. Davenport, secret service operator, were sent to Washington yesterday, where they will be destroyed. The coins are held illegal, following a decision deci-sion of a Seattle court, which fined several jewelers and confiscated hundreds hun-dreds of the coins. Only the pieces marked with numerals, numer-als, such as 1, 50 or 75, were sent awav yesterday, the others being held by Mr. Davenport until a decision is made here whether they come under the illegal heading also. The coins confiscated in Seattle bore the numerals. nu-merals. Mr. Davenport said that the coins will be melted upon arrival at Washington Wash-ington and the metal used by the government. |
