Show FORD LIBEL HEARING PROGRESS IS SLOW MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich., Mav 23. The second stage of the Henry Ford-Chicago Tribune libeT suit was completed today, to-day, and Monday the taking of evidence will betftn. The first stage, the selection of a jury, required a week and the second stage, completed today, brought to an end the arguments of counsel on admissibility of evidence, which consumed the second week of the trial. The arguments were pivoted on the demand de-mand of the defendant that it be permitted per-mitted to show that anarchy existed along the Mexican border at the time the Tribune Trib-une printed its editorial headed, "Ford la an Anarchist." Judge Tucker eald that he would not announce a ruling to govern the scope of the evidence, but would rule from time to time as circumstances required. re-quired. Alfred J. Murphy of the Ford forces denied de-nied today that Mr. Ford had ever directly di-rectly said that -tho word "murder" should be embroidered on the shirt fronts of soldiers. |
