The three days of institute for the city tencherH W'l.H concluded yesterday. Three NpHRktira made addresses during the general gen-eral assembly Superintendent K. A. Smith, Will G. Furred of the city board of education and Francis W. Kirkham, Htato supervisor of vocat ional education. Mr. Karn-lt talked upon "The Kduca-tiun Kduca-tiun of Society," laying stress upon the necessity of guarding against i in pro km ethical and aesthetic schooling, and urged unflagging z.-al in the inic-e.st of achieving achiev-ing BchoiaiHhliJ in the utility avenues or education. Mr. Smith called attention to the fact that education must deal with the development of soul in pupils, as well as with the training of their minds and bodies for efficiency. Mr. Kirkham dwelt upon the provisions of the new state compulsory education law fur civic and patriotic service education educa-tion work to extend throughout the twelve months of the year. The work is designed to embrace such subjects as personal per-sonal hygiene, gardening, boy scout activities ac-tivities and such other year-round activities ac-tivities of school eh ildren as should be brought under educational supervision. Mr. Smith appointed a committee of principals of city schools to work with Mr. Kirkham in devising a program for this course suited to the conditions in Bait Lake. The members of the committee com-mittee are: Miss Margaret Mac Vichle, Mark C. Brown, K. S. HallecK, Miss Ktta Powers, II. .T. Stearns, Miss Vio Soren-Ben, Soren-Ben, Frank H. KasLmond and Mrs. O. W. Moyle and Mrs. 10. W. Senior of the home and school league of the parent-teacher associations, with Superintendent Smith ' and Alma Clayton, attendance officer, as ex-officio members of the committee. |
