Show George Walker Declares ! He Was Shot by High- J waymen for Resisting. George Walker, 34 years of age, was found at 150 North Third West street with a bullet wound in his left side at I 11:30 o'clock last night. According to his story ho was held up on the viaduct at First North street by two men, and was shot when he showed resistence. He then walked a block to his wagon, where he sleeps, he said, and lay there until his moans caused Roy Proctor, who stays at the same place, to investigate. At the emergency hospital it was found that the bullet was deflected by a rib, following the bone and lodging in his back. Powder burns were found about the wound. It is thought he will recover. re-cover. Walker says he la a teamster for the Independent Ice company, and was unable to give a description of his assailants except ex-cept that they were of about his height, and that one of them wore a light cap while the other wore a dark one. After the shooting they went west across the bridge. Detectives Bert Seager and C. A. Williams, Wil-liams, who investigated the case, doubt the accuracy of his story, since they found that he had tried to burn up the bloody shirt he wore when he was shot. They believe that he got the wound in some other way, and was trying to keep it quiet, since he did not notify the authorities immediately after the attempted holdup. No one in the vicinity heard a shot. |
